Well what can I say, today was a very wierd and interesting day. Lets start off with the wierd. Normally when we dig up scrap metal, we leave it visible for the bush sleepers / scrap metal collectors to come and pick up and have build quite a good relationship with some of them. What do you know. Today one oke came around and brought me a couple of coins he picked up on the surface where the veld was burned (Obviously it cost me R 20-00 for the lot, but don't really care.....It is now part of my collection Hehehehe. What was very interesting was the assortment he found from left to right and top to bottom:
TOP
1967 Australian 20 cent
2006 Mozambique 10 Meticas
2006 Namibian $1
1991 France 1/2 Franc

MIDDLE
2003 Great Brittan 1 Penny
1963 SA 1/2 cent
1943 SA 1/4d (Farthing)

BOTTOM
3 x SA 1 cents - 1985 / 1987 / 1976
SA 2 cent - No visible date -  Needs serious cleaning
1984 SA 5 cent

Myself and Tomcat hunted from about 09:00 to 13:00 and had a very slow day. Fortunately my sweet lady did manage to give me some finds that really made me jump for joy before doing a rain dance like a crazy man just before we left.

1st to come out was a s George Rex VI Shilling- The front side is in a great condition but the back is so worn that no date is visible. All I know is that these where minted between 1937 to 1947 before the VI was changed to Sextvs.

Lastly came my pride and joy. A medal in honour of the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth with the specific date 12-5-1937 with the king an queen on the one side. On the reverse is a Male and female lion with the words "Union of South Africa - Unie Van Suid Afrika"......... Man, this blew me away.

As we left, I found 2 gents doing some metal detecting in the area. The 1st to see anyone there in the last year. Obviously curious I went to have a look and chat. What do you know....The found a similar medal but from 1947 (10 years later) with the state emblem on the one side and the images of the king and queen on the other. These came from the royal visit to South Africa in 1947.

The plot thickens and things just get better. I just can't wait for next weekend to get back in there. If anyone is interested in joining us. We (TomCat and I) are normally there anything from 8:30 during weekends. Give us a shout.

The offer stands Wilhelm. The Garretts are teaming up on me. Seems we are gonna be 4 hunters on Saturday of which 3 will be running Garrett Ace 250's. Think we are going to have a great little hunt there. ;)
