I'm posting this for a friend of mine, just got his f4 and been hunting in port noloth area, he found this behind the house and even myself confused to what it is.

I almost thought it was the old two bullet shells hit together with a message inside but apparently it has a end which can turn in with thread and other end is shut aswell.

If he shakes it he can hear loose stuff inside, solid and something heavy.

Anyone seen something like this?

I found something smilar to this but is not a big item. About 11 cm long. In this case it is a rifle oil bottle from a rifle cleaning kit that I found in Middelburg amonst the other British Boer war stuff. What is the dimensions of the pipe you found?

Have a look at this website. I believe that what you have might be a brass oil bottle of a .303 rifle....

For the Brass (not copper) pipe, also have a look here http://web.archive.org/web/20120330071947/http://www.enfield-stuff.com/oilers/oiler_types/oiler_types_index.htm

It is either a Mk III or Mk IV Lee Enfield Oiler

Not really as scrap. It is still worth a couple of bucks on ebay or bid or buy. Search for Lee enfield oiler bottles

James you were spot on. Your website has all the goods. My friend hasent had time yet to register on here so ill take the opportunity to let the cat out the bag.   He managed to open it and to utmost shock he found...........drumroll...........4xlong thin nail look alike gold pieces (hair pin/nail) shape with tiny nuggets inside.

Hes out hunting as we speak his son went to get it tested as the area was rich in copper ore will hear tonight the outcome.    Its diamond country that he is in plenty people dove diamonds out for a living arounx 1940 when they seized the port.

lets hold thumbs for more amazing finds from his side and thumbs up to his fisher f4

As soon he has it back in his hands he will take some photos, verrry cool find indeed. I was hoping for a old piece of paper with indications where a big treasure was buried or something to do with a nice stash but this is just as a good treasure I suppose keeping in mind the age of the container itself.

It could be a "charger", the migrant laborer's used them to hide diamonds by inserting them where the sun don't shine  :o ;D ;D ;D
AT Gold, CS6Pi, CS2MX and a ton of tent pegs
