Yup - I just got to GET THERE - LOL, I started this Hobby wayyyy too early in my life - I need to retire so that I can spend my time doing the fun things - like digging a hundred holes to (maybe) unearth something of interest!  ;)

To Dig or Not to Dig.......That still remains the question mate. Seriously, the Lady phoned me stating that you must come in and renew your Selborne membership. Hahahahahahah :P

My son had his first home school exam today with me taking leave to be home also. After the exam we all hopped over to Lady Selborne to unwind and relax. The sun was scorching hot but believe you me...... After a few hours of severe heat, I am glad we did go. I hit a 1/2 Penny and another prize find that have not to my knowledge been unearthed at Selborne in more than a year of hunting there. It was a 1938 Groot Trek Eeufees Medal to commemorate the 100 years since the Great Trek.

In the one side it had a map of South Africa with inscriptions "Die Groot Trek" and a date 1838. On the map is a trail of the Trek with 4 key areas identified from bottom to top being:
1. Slagters Nek
2. P M Burg (Pietermaritzburg)
3. Vegkop
4. Bloed R (Blood River)

The opposite side of the medal depicts a man next to an Ox wagon with mountains in the back gorund. It is inscribed Voortrekker Eeufees and 1938

Boys and girls....This has me excited. Although not worth much in monetary value, but to me this is one Awesome Find..... Can't wait to get into the field again.....

Till later then......Keep coil to the soil mates.......

Wow, just realised as well that I have hit the 1 000 post mark. That seemed so far away when I started here in this family yet there it is....Well, guess we will have to go for 1 500 next. Here is the medal close-ups.....Enjoy
