Which one...

  • on: December 10, 2015, 02:06 PM
Good day all.
I followed Paul's advice to look for something "cheap" to start with. So, I have narrowed it down to the Garrett Ace 250 Sport or the Garrett 350 (EuroAce). They are more or less in the same price range of +-R 6 500. Which is the best for value?

Hi Abra. Personally I would go with the Ace 250, as the 350 is very similar. I don't think I would buy the sports pack though. All you are really getting extra is a larger coil (not even a DD coil). The rest of the stuff is just a bag etc. I don't really think it is worth it. I would just go for the Ace 250 to start with.

I am going to be selling my Ace 250 very soon. It has a 8.5 x 11 DD coil which I bought a year after I got the detector (I have had my detector 2 years). I really like the larger coil. If you are willing to buy a secondhand detector instead of new, send me a PM and we can organise something. I also still have the stock coil (6.5"x9") and headphones that came with the detector that I can throw in for you.

Here are the links to the DD coil I mentioned

The Euro ACE is more advanced than the 250.  Some AT PRO owners say that they would not have upgraded to the AT Pro if they had the Euro ACE as a first detector.  Personally, I would talk to Paul for a nice deal on his 250 with the bigger coil - that is if you want to save the money to be able to buy a new Garrett Pro Pointer....

actually, with a small modification the euro ace becomes a non waterproof  AT pro

Wow, I did not know it will be this difficult to decide "which one!"
I made contact with Wolfgang and he "convinced" me that the new Fisher F44 is the best! And I can get it at R 6 500. Anybody wants to convince me otherwise?

It is a good machine. I thought I would just offer mine as a cheaper alternative :D Like Barney said, you will then have some cash left over for a pinpointer

I see that the F44 is waterproof

not waterproof, weatherproof - there's a big difference

I see now. I wonder what they mean by using those words. I got this from a site on the interweb

Quote
This is the scoop on weatherproof. The f44 and f22 are completely dunkable, drenchable and drop in the mud proof. But any depth under the water creates pressure that the seals in these units are not made to withstand. Therefore the 5 year warranty is not good for submersion. These units have been tested in showers in pools and about every way you can. We’ve been working on the technology for over a year. Moving forward we expect to make the f44 or some version of it waterproof in the future. Please feel free to contact me via facebook.

I can't wait for the delivery of my MD. My holiday is almost finished and I really want to try it out before its back to work. I have identified a few areas of "interest" in our area... will keep you posted.

Thanks Paul. I see that I still need some gear, e.g. a decent spade. Although Kuruman is mostly sandy, it can get rough digging in the dolomite areas.

Tony has an awesome design for a spade. I think he calls it the digger 7000( or something like that). Maybe he can send you the cad file.
