bloubergstrand on sunday 30/6

  • on: June 28, 2013, 03:00 PM
I plan to drive through to Blouberg on Sunday....have breakfast at Newscafe and then go plod around on the beach.
The tides are not good and the weather will be pretty cold and cloudy, but  hey, who cares. Lowtide is at 13h00
It would however be nice to meet some of the guys from Capetown.
Anyone care to join?

Hey Luuk,

I have been watching the beach cam at Kleinbaai Bloubergstrand and the sand is opening up nicely.  So good luck with the hunt.  Here is the link to the webcam.

That beach also gets a lot of fossilized sharks teeth washing out, they always nice to eyeball.

A quick question on your detectors, your surf PI's, do you have the surf pi dual field.  If you do have the dual field, I would love to here you thoughts on it as I have been thinking of upgrading to the dual field.

Enjoy the hunt.

Hi Alan, thanks for the info.
My surf pi is a self built unit with a mono coil. The surf pi pro is also a self built unit and I have made 2 dual field coils of different sizes for it. I am still however waiting for some parts to complete the build. (this one will be fully waterproofed)
I do know that the original Whites dual field is a real beast of a machine.

Hey Luuk,

Thanks for the feedback on your detectors.  Would love to see a pic of your self built detectors.  Not sure if you have ever heard of the Aquasound.  It is a detector which a guy who goes by the name of "Mr. Gold" builds.  Each machine is hand build and tuned by him.  They are rather pricey - over $3000 and from what I have read they can go 3 to 4 inches deeper than most PI units.  It is a TR detector and although some people see TR technology as outdated, it has the advantage of being able to distinguish between ferrous and non ferrous.  The Aquasound is not a flashy detector but is definitely one of the best salt water units out there for white sand areas.

Enjoy the hunt.

Hi Alan
I have heard of the Aquasound but they are not made any longer. The same design is found in the Nexus which is hand made on order for monster amounts. Had a long read about the build and tuning etc of this machine and the owner still claims that the Nexus will outperform any vlf on the market, hands-down.
I have actually downloaded the schematics for this detector and there is nothing spectacular about the electronics but the secret to this machine lies in the 100% accuracy in the coil windings + the coil setup and tuning.
The design might be old but so are the designs of all the detectors we use, its only the bells and whistles that are new.
I might just one day attempt to build one these just for the hell of it.

I currently have no pics of my pi detectors, but I will take some and place them at a later date.

DAMN!!! I love your photo of your finds.......(one day when i'm big, mmmmm dream dream dream)

Sunday turned out to be a beautiful day weatherwise.
I only worked the area opposite the Seli wreck, with the f75, dry and wet sand and later moved into the shallows.
Its taken a while but I have got the settings for the f75 in the salt down to dead quiet and deep.
I only wish capetonians would carry bigger cash and not just 10c pieces in their pockets......got a heap of them and just a short message to the Bottletopking. "your title is in jeopardy boet"
R2, 50c, 20c and 10c pieces aplenty
pulltabs and bottletops
hairpins
splitpins
safety pins
tent peg
biltong hook
needlework pin

no gold, no diamonds, no platinum....but I had an awesome day

Hey Luuk,

Good to hear your day turned out great.  Also sounds like you were detecting on a section well covered by excaliburs, the friendly excalibur guys tend to leave us something to find  :-\ most start and end with ferrous.
