Hi Metal Detectors

I just found the forum, thanks Chris :)

I am based in the Western Cape and have been metal detecting for a few months now. Bought a Minelab Safari and it works like dream on the beaches.

Most of my detecting is on the beaches and "historic" sites in the Western Cape, Tankwa (broader Karoo) and have just been on a trip to metal detect some of the old prospectors dwellings in the Northern Cape.

I have a day job, working for myself and work lets me travel all over the Western Cape so I always have my metal detector and camera (my other passion) in the car.

With it not being safe to roam around forests, etc. alone I would be keen to meet other detectors in the WCape who would be keen to MDetect together.

Current plans are Rhodes Memorial area, the block houses and some historic sites - I enjoy the research into the history before venturing forth.

Anyone keen to join me after work (I go metal detecting instead of playing golf) and on weekends can contact me offroadadventurer@iafrica.com

Best regards and happy hunting

Greg

Hi Greg,

Old sites can be fun, just keep up to date with South African legislation.  The last bill they put through just made most of us criminals  :-\

Nice, another western caper :)

I will be back in Cape Town in May and wouldnt mind hooking up for a hunt (especially as you say, for the safety aspect). I am more interested in the beach hunts but lets see...

Thanks for the replies.

Wanted to get out today but it did not work out - planning for tomorrow but the wind is blowing like crazy so we will see what the morning holds. The weather forecast shows heavy rain and wind of 58 km per hour. :(

Hi Alan, can you post a link to the legislation bill you mentioned.
@ Greg, I am also looking for detecting partners, lets try to put something together when Pushing Tin gets back to town, I'm in Fish Hoek.

Hi Dave

I try and get out at least once a week. I am researching some local wreck sites and want to get to them in the next three weeks.

Send me a pm and I will join you. I am going out on Wednesday, not sure where yet.

I found a 200 year old farm house and the owner seems quite open to me lurking in his yard with the detector.
