New from Durbanville

  • on: February 16, 2014, 02:07 PM
Hello All

New from Durbanville.  Have been thinking for many years to get into this hobby and I think it is time to get into it.  I still need to buy a detector and the more I read up on which detector to buy, the more confused I get.  Any input from you all would be appreciated.  Thanks

Welcome to the forum. Where are you thinking of detecting? The beach or park type areas?

Welcome Hans. Get the best you can afford. A good starter is the Garrett Ace 250/350. Try it out, if you like it and get experience, You can upgrade. Stay away from the El Cheapos
May the Wors be with you.

I was thinking of beaches, caravan parks and old farm yards.

If you want to detect beaches, you are going to have to decide if you want to detect dry or wet sand. Why I say this, is that some detectors (VLF technology) do not work very well on wet sand as they do not have good ground balancing. If you want a good all rounder that can handle wet sand pretty well, as well as being good for all other areas, then I would go for the Garrett AT Pro
