I will see ya'll there. Just heard the prices for the first four best finds of the day and I just hate being associated with Minelab SA right now because I am automatically disqualified from receiving any. I am not authorized to say anything but it seems that at least 3 guys will walk away with brand new detectors!
Digging up history - one pullring at a time.

Just got to love Minelab ;)

Hi All

Herewith the email received from GoMineLabbing regarding the event tomorrow:

Dear GoMinelabber,

This is just a friendly reminder and update with regard to GoMinelabbing South Africa tomorrow 17 May 2014.

We will be starting at 10h00 and wrap up by 15h00 with the price giving at the Voortrekker monument.  Just follow the GoMinelabbing pointers from the Monument entrance in Eeufees Rd.

This is a family event so all are welcome.  You must make provision for your own eats and drinks, chairs and shade.  The Voortrekker Monument Restaurant and Kiosk will be open all day.

Please again note that no fires including gas fires are allowed at the terrain that we will be at.  The Picnic terrain a few hundred meters away is available for that purpose.

The participation fee will be R50.00 per detector for the day.  No charge will apply to those accompanying you.  Please take note that no Card Payment facility will be available.

A limited number of Detectors will be available for those attending without one.  A charge of  R20.00 per hour will apply for a maximum of 2-hours at a time in order to allow others the opportunity as well.  This charge also to be fair to those attending with their own detectors.

All the funds will go towards the Voortrekker Monument for the use of the facility and conservations fees.

Looking forward to seeing you.

Best regards,

TEAM MINELAB SOUTH AFRICA

Well, a great day behind us. I did not take pics of the finds but here are some in anyway of the event. A number of coins came out consisting of several pennies, the latest dating back to the late 1890's up to 1946, 2 x 6 pences of which Darren got one, 1 x tickey for me, and a awesome military badge for TonyC. Congreats Tony on winning 3rd prize with the badge. Well done.

Special thanks to Minelab for arra ging and sponsoring the event and fabulous prizes. Also a very special thank you for the management of the Voortrekker Monument for having us all today on their grounds. I strongly believe that events like this will bring historians and metal detectorists closed together.

Thank you also to all our forum members that was in attendance today. It was a privilage for me and my family to meet you all. Hopefully we will get together again soon albeit just for an informal day or weekend in the field. I believe we should really do it more often as forum members and representatives of probably the greatest hobby in existance. Where else can you make new friends, relax and have fun, and build up collections of scarce artifacts etc.

To all of us that foun something today and had to hand it in for a change........At least we can all now talk together with the fishermen when they speak about the one that got away......Hehehheheheh :-[ None the less, giving up what we found today was a small price to pay for what was achieved. I will definately do it all over again. At least I can say I had a 1933 Tickey (3d)

Hope to see more of you guys and girls at the next event. Untill then, keep coil to the soil mates.
