I got asked accusingly(Or at least the way it sounded like) by an older man with a German accent(Was unnerved, like I was in trouble) for looking for cables in the botanical gardens, luckily his sons helped him out a bit distracting him talking about other stuff, he had that "being rubbed the wrong way for no reason" thing about him.

The other times onlookers thought I was looking for water.

The worst however is having a 13yo girl ask you: "What makes you think you will find something"?

Some strange guy started following me around the beach talking ten to the dozen, telling me that his friend bought a metal detector for R70,000.00, walked onto a beach and found the rarest coin in SA with his first find and became an instant millionaire.Ya,  :-\ :-\
This guy, about 35 yo tells me he.s saving up so he can buy one when he retires, then he'll start hunting. The more I told him he could start a bit earlier for as little as R3500.00 and get a great Garrett Ace 250, the more he wanted to pay R70k for the best.  :-[
While he's talking away, I get a hit and start digging....... He promptly sits down next to me and tells me half of my find is his...Idiot >:(
I unearthed 3 tent pegs and offered him a few bottle tops.Luckily he became disinterested and walked away. Phew!!!

Lol Digga

The wierd and wonderful world we live in hey...Well, if he wants to spend R70 k, let him go ahead..... Who knows, in his mid he might not find anything with a "Cheap" machine. Next time advise him to rather purchace a "GPR"...That should set him back quite a few hundred thousand....lol

:o This same idiot comes out the sea behind me this morning, catching me unawares. Wanting to know what I had found. I told him, oh, quite a few old coins. He replied, Oh I dont have to dig for them, my mom just gives them to me. ??? wheres the fun in that.
Then this Indian lady comes up to me and asks if I have found any sea lice yet. ::) ::)
On my way back to the car, a guy from Cape Town says to me that down there, his friend drags a magnet up and down the beach and all the coins stick to it.  :'( :'(
