Active detecting clubs?

  • on: July 08, 2016, 11:22 AM
Hi All

After viewing a number of videos on this site I have a question that may have been answered before.

Are there any active clubs in South Africa or more to the point (for me), in the Centurion area?

What I mean by active, is a club to which members pay a subscription, that organises monthly detecting rally's and "get together's" as they have in the UK. Rally's could mean an afternoon event, a day event, or even a week-end event (camping out).
It also seems that a number of the UK clubs have affiliations with local museums which I guess makes getting permission to detect certain sites a lot easier.

If the answer is no - who would be interested in starting/joining such a club?

As far as i know, there are no organised clubs around. I think there are just too few of us in the country to make sense. There are several members around your area, so maybe wait to see what they say. Maybe they would be keen

Thanks Paul

I think that some of the benefits of such a club would be:
Contribution and pooling of ideas on where to hunt.
Security of a group as opposed to an individual.
Farmers/landowners would more easily give permission for detecting to an organisation than an individual.
Involvement of the families in the hobby etc. etc.
