Garrett ACE 300I & 400I

  • on: March 11, 2016, 07:52 AM
Hi All,
As per (the ever so helpful and prompt)Lynette from Doculam, the new releases of the ACE 300I & 400I  are due to be shipped-out from "Murica" in March.
Preliminary cost for the 400I around R 8200.00 (excl)
If I understand specs correct, there is no ground balance, is this an issue in the field (in general) or does it take all in it's stride?
Any comments/observations from other ACE owners on these new units? Is it hot or not?

Thanks for the info. I had the 250 for a few years, and really loved it. Apparently the 400 is very similar to the ATpro except that it isn't waterproof, and there is no proportional audio. The ground balance seems to be set too. Ground balance is generally not a problem unless you are hunting in mineralised areas

Why is there no replacement parts available for garret detectors.

For example if the controller box is broken why can't a person just purchase a new controller box or even the chip board inside the box. This will also make upgrading detectors easy. Take for instance now with the release of the new 300i and 400i. A person owning a Euro ace 350 would only need to replace the chip board inside with a 400i chipboard. Instead of spending R8000 on a 400i when a Euro ace is currently priced at R7800.

The coil and shaft on the Ace 150, Ace 250, Euro ace 350, Ace 300i and Ace 400i are all compatible with each other. Only difference is the chip board or controller box electronics. If a person could import the chip boards or controller units only for Ace 400i many people could upgrade their older detectors to better newer detectors.

The chipboards are available, but not for purchase on their own. If yours blows they will replace it for you, but not just sell you one to do with as you please. Doing that would pretty much kill their sale of detectors, as everyone would just buy the board

So there is no market for second hand controller units. Ace 350, AT Pro or AT Gold. There are 100's of thousands of detectors world wide. Maybe someone broke coil and shaft and is only sitting with a unit to sell. If i could get my hands on a 400i, AT gold or AT pro unit i will find a way to make it work on my shaft and coil. Changing the coil connector is easy.

You are right that there should be lots of second hand spares around, but you just don't see them. I don't know why. People probably get their detectors repaired all the time
