South African law sucks regarding wreck finds.
1 st you are not allowed to take anything from a wreck dive site in South Africa the flora and fauna will arrest you or if another diver catch you he will report.
2 No dive agency will take you to detect ask me I am an dive master and master diver they don't even allow you to take shells from the bottom only shark teeth because of the fact that shark lose about 30, 000 teeth in their lifetime.
All wrecks is considered a marine protected area and heritage site.
3 If you do beach hunting always make sure it is not an marine protected area if it is you will need special permission from flora and fauna to dig this sites is normally to protect turtle eggs and marine animals.
Did you know port Edward is one of the most highly protected areas in South Africa because of their fossils on the beach.

I've just registered with South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) and am in the process of applying for a permit to 'hunt' a certain site... Not the easiest of things to do.

Good luck with that one mate. I have actually been in this area last year during the holiday. Didn't detect the beach though
