that one is vacuum formed except for the ears
I have tried numerous times but the ears always end up a disaster, so this time i made a seperate set of ears and they are fixed with epoxy

That also looks good. I have been thinking of trying vacuum forming myself

Very good idea Luuk!!....I would maybe just fill in a radius at the point where the ears meet the base to remove the tweak point, the vac process may create a natural web in that area for you..

thanks Tony, will try that.....it makes a lot of sense
the abs does not draw down between the ears, but makes a bridge between the two
but I will keep on trying till it works properly

Landuse, the equipment and all is really simple but it does take a bit of pratice
it is fun though.....making stuff

I'm not sure how your vac form system is configured Luuk. We used to drill 1 to 1,5 mm holes into the corners at 45 degrees through the pattern to the base at points where we needed more vacuum to get rid of bridges ,we also found that mounting the pattern on fine expanded mesh helps to spread the vacuum and prevent sealed off areas....finally you may have to build a vacuum storage tank which speeds up the forming time...

Now see what you've done!!!!   you've made my hands itchy 8)
need to make a specific coil housing template for the spider weave coil for the bara, so I will try and utilise this new found info

Anytime Luuk..We also made our vac patterns out of superwood then spaced them up slightly from the table on the vac former to give us a bit more depth ..Then using poly ethelene sheet we would make a female mould on the vac former and cast resin into this mould to make our production patterns. This method is quicker and it's way cheaper that producing a silicone mould!.you will however find that PE 300 will shrink slightly so a compensation should be factored into your wood pattern...The wounderfull thing about Poly ethelene is that nothing sticks to it so you shouldn't need a release agent....
