GAUTENG HUNTS

  • on: August 23, 2014, 06:53 PM
Hi Guys and Girls

The okes here in Pretoria are doing quite well as a collective when it comes to weekend get togethers. I was just wondering when we are going to see a similar situation develop elsewhere in Gauteng such as the Benoni, Joburg, Krugersdorp, Heidelberg or Nigel etc guys...... Give us a shout if you do plan to do something in your area. I am sure most of the Pretoria guys would be eager to join in if for nothing less then at least for a change of scenery.....Come on people, we need to get together and hunt the history out of South African soil.

Well, untill we hook up hopefully one day, keep coil to the soil mates.

I agree with you James its about time..As soon as I can find an area worth digging that would keep us all amused I will put out the invite. The old mines in Benoni have been illegal dumping grounds for the last 70 years or so, Just when I think I have found a good spot you end up in a dump..!!!....Its a great shame as there must be tons of stuff to find but it's all masked by rubbish!!.....I know the old mining area very very well but junk free areas are few.....
Where is that five Shilling???

I also wish we could get a group to detect in Nigel and Heidelberg area. Its bad always going alone and unsafe.

Hey there PF

Have you got a area in mind on your side? We can always try and get our group together one Saturday and pop over there. It is not that far off. We will just have to get the logistics sorted our. Gimme a shout then we can take it from there. ;)

Hi Everyone

I have been relic hunting around the south of Johannesburg. I go out very early on Sunday mornings, to stay out of the heat and I'm usually on my way home by midday.

Morning James

I live in Edenvale. I have been pretty successful at a British/Boer war sangar, in the Gatsrand over the last year but there is a lot of area to cover. I'm going to wait for winter before going back there again. The last few months have been spent in and around the Lido Hotel and Jacksons drift. A few old coins but lots of trash. I'm now seeking permission to hunt in the Kliprivier nature reserve. There is an old boer farmhouse I would like to look around.

It would be nice to have a fellow detectorist around, so give me a call if you want.
