I'm with PushingTin on this - forcing people to post is not the way to go.

Just my 5cents worth...I don't always log in, and also don't have to much time on my hand for hunting, but if I find things interesting then I do post it. so some times months will pass without a post , and I don't think its fair to block someone if he/she is not active for sometime. I also agree that there might be spam users and think that will always be the case. some people will join just to read it because they are interested in this hobby although they will never actively take part in it.  Again u will find that in any club/Facebook, or similar forums. I don't think this site will die, and it will grow with time. We all know that there is always an interest in this hobby, as we can see when people approach us while we detect.  Therefore I think the business card idea was great to make people want to know more. not all of them starts right away, but first wants to learn a bit more, and this is the best place to get the answers needed. I can remember when I was a young boy seeing this guy on the beach with a detector in hand. Always wanted to try it and only got around buying my first detector when I was about 38. only later I discovered this site by chance , so I believe there is a lot of people that are interested  but not all can start straight away, but will eventually catch up, and some will just stay for the interesting find people discover. So to block people is not the correct way of promoting this forum. Happy hunting

Another way to keep people from joining that don't really want to join, but they join just to ask for help with some thing they lost. Maybe there can be a public blog where they can ask for help if they lost some thing or need help. this will prevent them from joining, only to ask for some assistance.  Maybe u can make it so that it doesn't show if they don't give a contact number or email to stop spam .
There is people that need help from time to time with lost valuables, an I for one will help if it is in my region. Just a thought ..
Happy hunting .
