I assume it is for diving? If i look at the size of the engine, it is quite a big item

Isn't that Allen :D

I don't think you are going to get one cheap. Googling it they look like they are about R30 000

Upside down, why not go with scuba equipment..way cheaper and you are garanteed to get air in your lungs instead of water and exhuast gas...

Yes & no Tony, hassle with scuba is getting the cylinders re-filled and depending how hard you suck (no pun intended :D) you'll have bottom time of 1-2 hrs, where after, you have to re-fill, which around here takes you off the spot till next weekend...hookah you just top-up the gas & go...
Oddly enough, the floating hookah handles swells very well, trick is to have it positioned just behind the surf-break, you actually work from the sea-ward side towards land and also you pack a LOT of weights (20+kg's harness) to keep you pinned to the bottom. You can't swim, you crawl... ;D
I'm ex (old school) commercial diver with (too many) years on the diamond coast so working in the "washing machine" isn't really too much of a hassle...(not fun either though  :))
Anyways, appreciate your input Sir!

Hey SRUcc,I would still maybe look at two cylinders and invest in your own mini compressor ,you may even end up with some change in your pocket.

Lo SRUcc- not sure if you still follow this topic but have been looking to find more or less the same thing as you (sea hookah) when I and came across the following link:

seahookah.com

For what it's worth, they offer two flavours: the SASUBA, which is a scuba tank float (I know, scuba tank is not what you want) and the Powersnorkel, which is a battery and pump unit float (Louis Kriedeman's post above also refers to the 12v model, but different brand). They don't offer a petrol model and it's a Thailand product, therefore still expensive.

All that said.....at this point, for me, either would be good to have!
