Hi Keith,  that plastic scoop almost looks home made. I am sure a person could make a scoop like that with a plastic spade. Otherwise a person could find out by a metal detector dealer they should have beach scoops in stock.

I bought a similar plastic shovel from an industrial supply store (they sell equipment for use in the fishing industry) and had a buddy saw it into shape and drill the holes - works great on wet sand!

I have never used a plastic scoop - it just looks like it can break so easily...

Thanks for your replies, i think around the pole reinforcement would be the weakest spot, underwater makes good sense to check quickly if the target has been scooped or not, especially when holding your breath or partial visibility through the surf.
I'll try the fishing tackle shops and let you know if i find anything.

You can buy those plastic shovels at places that sell hazmat clearing supplies. Those spades are used when cleaning up hazardous material spills. You will just have to drill the holes yourself

Yip there it is, a bit shallow but will work, they call them spark proof shovels.
