Jaco's coin cache

  • on: November 01, 2015, 04:39 PM
Had planned to search some of the shoreline of the Vaal dam this morning as the the Dam is only at 50 percent capacity....I was on the road at 5 am this morning and headed for the Vaal, I arrived at around 6:30 only to have my enthusiasm dampened by the fact that I could not get close to. the water for all the private estates and yacht clubs.....Graciously JacoS invited me to join him and the two of us hit a spot or two in Heidelberg ....This was and eyeball find by Jaco...a load of coins just lying in the Veld.
Where is that five Shilling???

Weird day...thanks Tony, pity about the Vaal, but always good to hunt with you. Not every day you find 176 coins...

Brendan, here's a summary:

New 5c 60 (1990 to 2006)
Old 5c 1 (1979)
Old 2c 7 (1977-1989)
Old 1c 13 (1970-1989)
New 1c 54 (1991-2001)
New 2c 39
New R2 1
New 20c 1

Although definitely not old, I quite like the old 2c and 1c pieces. Like chalk and cheese when compared with the new 5c, where even a 2006 coin is pitted.

Think someone lost a piggybank in the veld?

I must say that looks impressive find if you look at the photo. It could have just so easily being a few Paul Kruger coins.....
I do it the metal detecter way - swing it around like I just don't care.
