Hi everybody,
I am a newbie at this wonderful hobby; I am a 56 year old man from Retreat, Cape Town.
I just got myself a Teknetics Eurotek Pro detector, so I am pretty happy. Took a stroll on Muizenberg beach this morning. Didn't find much(2x R5 and 3x R1. coins and a heap of rusted nail, bottle tops and pull tags!!But its okay- I needed to get to know the machine so I am not complaining.
Would like to know if there are any fellow detectorists out there or any group hunt events planned: would be nice to interact and hopefully learn from you more experienced members.
I am also on the look out to buy a 11" DD coil for my detector as well as a pin point probe- so hit on me if anyone has anything to sell.
Thanks Happy hunting

welcome, quite a few capetonians here and there are times when group hunts are initiated by the members. Keep a look out in the "Clubs, Hunts and Events" forum for future group hunts.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the welcome; being checking out YouTube on metal detecting for the past couple of hours. Got me really excited, but now I kind of want to upgrade to a Minelab Excalibur II. Its going to mean a lot of saving up and maybe even selling off some of my stuff so that I can afford it. I want to do some underwater detecting- like scuba diving: That would really be awesome. I reckon going scuba would be great as I noticed all the detectorists here in my area simply walk ankle deep in the water. For now, I will still use the Teknetics, but I am keeping my eyes out for the Minelab and saving every cent!! I got some musical instruments (electric guitars/drum kit) that I will consider selling too.
Happy hunting
Cheers

Hi SilverShadow101, In future know as "SS101" ;). Welcome to T.H.. Be very careful, what you started becomes addictive. At work, you start thinking where to go next and you get withdrawal symptoms when you cant go out hunting on the weekends. Got myself tilers kneepads yesterday. What a difference. Sure helps with the ol' knees. Enjoy your new hobby and posts those pics.

Welcome.
Also have the euro. Everything that you can get to hit in the 90's twice in a row is probably a coin like object or falsing iron.
Gotta hate klipdrift caps though. Man.. some parks. Eventually if you feel like digging for possible jewelry you are going to dig everything above iron anyway.
Minelab capetown I think will be the first to have accessory stock for teknetics in the country. Will just need to be patient as their shipment is still in the ropes. You might need to check them on that though.
I got myself the G2 lateron so I don't need one anymore. I just swap them out.
A secondhand pinpointer is unheard of.. Best is just to get a new one the Minelab Profinder or Garrett Propointer is the most recomended but also a bit more expensive than the runnerups type devices. The other devices don't come close to succeeding at purpose as those two.

Hi everyone,
A big "Thanks" for all the feedback and tips guys. I really appreciate it.
Sent email to Minelab regarding price on Excalibur II, still waiting their reply. Either way, I know its going cost a packet!! Also asked my sister -in-law in Australia to see if she can source one down there- I reckon it will be cheaper even with shipping costs.
Also looking at some dive gear at the moment- got to get some scuba lessons too. Its going to cost a packet, so selling my music gear and stuff is worth it. Great finds are very welcome yes, but for me the thrill is in the hunt...
Happy hunting and cheers

Hi Everyone,
After meeting client in Sea Point today, I quickly took a little search along the beach- only spent 45 min there before having to go back to work.
Beach is cluttered with bottle caps, pull tabs and iron scrap- but through it all, I still managed to find a few things:
couple 2 cents, a rusty key, cheap plated ear ring, as well as 1982 1 Peseta (Spanish) , 2006 5 cent(USA) and a 1952 6D (South Africa).
Coins were heavily encrusted, but vinegar and salt sorted them out.
I was really chuffed with my finds considering the short time I spent and the heavily trashy area. Time was against me, so in my rush I did not dig the deep signals, all my finds were about 4" deep. Happy with the Teknetics Euro Pro so far: can only get much better once I am really familiar with all its tones.
Happy Hunting
Cheers,

you can look at roun about R16 000 to R17 000 but please only buy at an minelab dealer and if annybody comes with a cheap price then its a fake 100percent sure of that i know there is a dealer in pretoria but will check if there is a dealer close to you.Go and talk to them and im sure you can get a little discount

That is the best way to tell if something is fake or not legit, if it's below retail or even brand supplier price.
Reminds me of the time I tried to get Photoshop, I bought copies on bid or buy twice and had to return them twice. In the end the only way to tell was the price and the fact that I had a serial number registered on their website. Was an expensive tool but it's something I grew up with and It's the most useful graphic tool I know. I might not buy a new copy or upgrade for the rest of my life but it will do.
