Cheers and Happy Hunting :)
I sent minelab an email asking them
If they do, then i am definitely going to make the trip up to JHB this year.
-
Hi Paul, I was at Hobby-x in Jburg last week and they told me they will have the same kind of event this year and that they already have a venue in mind. The guy who attended me said we must just watch their facebook site, they will post it soon ...

I send my registration through as well and did not receive confirmation. I did however phone minelab afterwards and they told me they did receive my registration.

Morning Boys and Girls
Just making a brief appearance after a long period of absence. A quick clarification on the Minelab Event:
Yes, It will be at the Voortrekker again but more to the top as I understood.
No, you do not normally get confirmation of registration. The registration is for the guys and girls at Minelab to determine how much logistics they must cater for etc etc.
Anyone can go. Any type of detector welcome. Bring family and friends. They do not have to hunt to join in the fun. ;D
Can't wait myself. Only a few days left to go ;)

Tomorrow!

So, if they say the western side of the monument, will it be here?
-
I reckon that would greatly depend on exactly where 'here' is ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
next to the white tent...... ;D
-
Well, where the red oval is.......

-
Looks like nothing was there at the time :D
-
It was more to the road's side, if you face the monument from its entrance, the right side, where the tents are Towards the middle of the picture.
-
So did anyone find anything decent at the event? Any of our own win any prizes? Any Pics from the event?
-
Hey it was a touch miz with the rain really comming down at the end during prize giving. We spent most of the day in light to moderate rain thanks to Paul who brought it with him from Maritzburg!!...Overall it was a great day with the Kraft family cleaning up with two machines ...Hats off to George and his Minelab team for having the guts to brave the weather and put on a fantastic event.Welldone to too all the people that showed up and took part in the day!
-
I am sorry for bringing the rain with me, but I thought you might need it. I was planning to only give it to you on Sunday, but I don't know what happened. :D Congratulations to do those that won prizes. There were some great finds
I will post some of my pics tomorrow when I get them off my phone. I really enjoyed meeting a lot of you guys that I only communicate with through the forum. It is nice putting a face to a name
-
Likewise Paul, great to put some more faces with the names.
Congrats to Mr. Curnick of this here east rand parish, don't think he has been to a Minelab event without not winning anything. The Kraft Clan were also there in numbers!
Weather? Ja, was challenging, might have to revisit my no long trousers on Saturdays policy!
Thanks to Minelab for their commitment (both physical and financial). Would be great if other manufacturers could support the local scene to the same extent.
-
I agree jaco. Garrett could maybe do a little more for the hobby here in SA. I know it is a minelab event, but Garrett could do other stuff
-
Paul ,please do post the pics you have and if anyone took pics of the winning finds please post them, was just to much rain at the end,to get any pictures..
-
Here are some of my pics. They are pretty random, but it gives you an idea of what the day was like. I am not too sure what the winning finds were. Maybe someone can fill us in?
-
Some more
-
Here are a few of me, and a nice find of mine :D
-
What a fun, if wet, day. Was indeed nice seeing everybody again (Paul, nice meeting you). Here is my significant finds for the day. A 1910 ONE Penny and what I am told is a Cap Badge. Good enough for fourth place!

Lol Tony, only the Mpumalanga side of the family. I did not even get one to hand in to be judged. Feels strange to blank. Guess Lady Selborne have spoiled me totally. Guess it is time for me to learn how to hunt hey ;) ;D

Nice finds andre
-
Nice going Andre. Love the coin.
-
Hi All, congrats to all that won prizes. It was really a fun day inspite of the weather, and it was nice to see all the people. I only took a couple of pictures but will ad them.
Cheers and Happy Hunting :)

I unfortunately didn't get to take pics of my finds cos i didn't want to take my phone out in the rain.
This is what i found though:
1 x signet ring (maybe gold plated but wearing off)
1 x Queens visit medal (my first one ever)
1 x General service button
1 x half of a gunpowder flask with a bit of fancy on it (i will post a pic from google of what it used to look like)
1 x 1925 Farthing (excellent condition)
1 x belt buckle with the same design as a general service button on it
1 x little keyhole
1 x small pocket knife (really old)
1 x plain button. Size of R5 coin. Looked old
4 x spent rifle cartridges (looked like blanks)
And lots of rubbish. I had a really great day, and i am glad i found some cool stuff. The powder flask was one half of the example you see below. It was flat :D
-
Too bad were booked to work overtime 14th and 15th May. I wish i could have attended but had to work.
