Title: Minipulse Plus
Post by: Barney on March 01, 2016, 11:39 PM
At last - I have all the hardware and electronics for my new Minipulse Plus detector project.  It will be waterproof. Plan to finish it in the next week....

Cool Barney, my pi was water proof till it got wet!!....remember to drink some beer while you build it!!. Tip for attaching the control housing, get your self the mounting plate from an old Penn style fishing reel and attach it to the housing then use the original mounting on the fishing rod.....remember to reinforce the tip of the rod where the coil mounts...

That's awesome Barney. I hope the build goes well. I assume Louis did the coil for you?

Yes Tony - as you can see I am using the original mount on the rod.  The housing is a commercial container used to by hikers to safeguard a stored object against water and it has a strong belt clip that I am going to modify to fit on the reel housing of the rod.  Yes Paul, the coil was made by Louis.

Herewith a pic of the completed PCB.  Initial tests shows that this baby is hot!  It detects a R5 coin at 25 cm and a gold ring at 23 cm.  With Pulse Detectors the performance depth (for some weird reason) increases in beach sand so I am very curious to see how it will perform on the beach.

Fishing poles tend to split easily at the tip,if you can, cut a section from higher up the rod and glue it in place..

So there she is - I must just do the labeling of the controls.  The cable protruding at the bottom left corner on the controls face plate is the charger connection for the Li-on 12V battery pack sealed in the housing.  Dunking tests completed and it is water proof against occasional dunking below the surface.  Now to find time on the beach.......  8)
