Title: Choosing a second coil.
Post by: JacoS on November 17, 2015, 08:23 PM: So it has now been almost 8 months since I bought my 705 Goldpack. Although it was really impulsive, and bought almost on a whim, I can truly say that these months have been an absolute joy and I am very happy with my machine.

I have found the 10"x 5"18.75 kHz coil to be very handy in terms of its "sniper" size, especially in summer where I sometimes have to hunt in between vegetation. I am very happy with the finds I have made up to now (I of course have no baseline to measure my detecting against).

I am just wondering whether the "gold" bias of my coil has perhaps not led to some lost finds. My soil is typically not very mineralised (negating one of the prime reasons to use an 18.75 kHz) and given my location, hunting for alluvial gold is not on the cards.

After trawling the net, the consensus seems to be that a 3 kHz 15" coil may be just the ticket to remedy my lack of silver coins. I am leaning towards a Coiltek.

Anyone with any opinions on this? As a relative novice I will appreciate any "real world" advise!

Thanks guys, new coil is a result of silver envy Tony. You are to blame.

Thanks Paul, I understand, small coil will be on standby in those areas. Early new year's resolution: avoid trashy areas!

Post by: Louis Kriedemann on November 17, 2015, 09:52 PM: just dont try and over do it on coil size. the bigger, the deeper bla bla bla. just remember that the bigger the coil the less small targets it will find.
have a look at nel coils - tornado. one of the best after market coil around
