Hey there,
totally new to this hobby and never used a metal detector in my life before. After much research I settled on getting a Minelab X-Terra 705 to start with and things are already looking great!
Based in Pretoria area and can't wait to find awesome hunting spots.

Hi and welcome.
Ah.. Pretoria, there are tons of places in P-town that could yield some good finds.
I have wondered about this picture for a while. Some of those crowds must have extended beyond the main monument property, and somebody had to drop something.

Good luck.

welcome to the forums. You got a great machine. I was considering that one before I eventually settled on getting the etrac.

Thanks everyone!
I've been dying to go find out if we're allowed to hunt at the monument! I've made some very interesting discoveries in terms of good locations to hunt so hopefully they will pan out.

Talk to the people from Die Erfenis stigting. Their offices are located at the monument. As far as I'm concerned they are NOT in any way entitled in terms of the South African Heritage Resources Act to give you any permission but you never know what privileges you might get. If you are active on FB you can also look them up under "Die erfenisstigting". Very kind people indeed ;)

The monument has it's own management.
I tried to mail them once but back then I still relied on mail. Talking to people or even better, going to see them in person should be much easier.
Could be turned into a positive initiative.
