Hi Fishless.
These are good techniques!
The one I find least intrusive (or damaging) to the Grass, is "The Slit Technique", as described in this PDF.http://www.goldpanprospectors.com/files/METAL_DETECTING_RECOVERY_METHOD11.pdf (http://www.goldpanprospectors.com/files/METAL_DETECTING_RECOVERY_METHOD11.pdf)
It is quick and allows you to work in sensitive areas and leave a very small footprint.

I havent seen that one before. It seems to be a better way of leaving the grass natural. I like it..lol
