Be interesting to see what equipment every one uses while hunting and will also be a great way to pick up on ideas that other members have come up with....This is my latest rig ,I switched from a flack jacket type arrangement as I feel that people found it a touch intimidating....from left to right ;finds pouch, solid bladed knife the type where the blade runs to the end of the handle, spade holster, mace (for when a 9mm would be a slight case of over bombing!,two junk pouches, my favourite bit of kit...the pinpointer and the digger 5000

Great setup Tony. I am still on the flack jacket, have been thinking along the same lines as yours.

Nice set up....
-
I like the flack jacket, it works well, it's just a bit hot in summer and like I said people see you in the park and they get nervous and intimidated!......I look like a member of the SWAT team armed with a metal detector.

-
Where is the Rum Boeta
Oi Tom
To get all the Rum and Coke in the picture would have caused me to stand too far away. You would then never be able to see the equipment mate :o ;)
-
Nice James.... I want your pick!!......where did you get that sucker?
-
Great set up James!
On top of your pinpointer, is that the baljonete you talk about in other topics?
-

It works quite well. Has a thin shaft that fits through a police baton holder so it can be easily carried on the belt. Procured it here from Tom at about R50 each.
-

Hi Alain
Yes, that is the R1 rifle bayonette. Super hardened steel. Works like a charm. ;)
-
This is my gear, lots of pockets for scrap and odd size artefacts. I added a vintage screwdriver to the setup to assist in wedging rocks away. My kit includes a folding knife and the obligatory toothbrush. Coins and delicate finds are stored in the top left pocket that is padded with foam rubber.
-
Here's the pic
-
Where is your machine Boet
-
Thanks for that James ....gonna have to get one .......@ Jason ,that's a lot of weight to go swimming with when you have a metal detector and beach scoop as hands!!!!!......@ Walker, nice setup bud I like the flack jacket!
-
My gear - the hat to cover the hairless dome of course .......... ;D
-
With that Machine of a PI!!....you would never say that that wasn't built in a detector factory!.....would look at home in a Raptor fighter jet cockpit that machine of your Barney.....by the way.....did you know Fritz Pohl?
-
Hi Tony - nope I don't know a Fritz Pohl by name. Was he in the SA Air Force - if so - when? The PI is very sensitive - cannot use it on the lawn as it is busy the whole time....
-
No....he was just a local in your town...A fantastic guy who was larger than life but sadly passed this year after a long battle with cancer....Hoedspruit is a small town and just about everybody knows everybody....thats why I asked.
-
Ready for tomorrow!!! ;D
-
My toys ;D
-
Nice toys pit
-
Nice gear you got there Pit!
I LIKE!!!! :)
-
Sweet Gear Pit
Lock and loaded and ready for Action
-
I've got a camping style, plastic 25L water container (+ tap) which I'm going to load from now on, including a bottle of soap... ;D
In an attempt to clean your hands after a hunt, wet wipes just do not do the job... Maybe even a small scrubbing brush and possibly a bucket as well... ???
-
Well equipped Pit! 8)
-
GLOVES!!!.....wear them!!
-
GLOVES!!!.....wear them!!
Lol. I wear mine all the time. They start smelling a bit after a long hunt though

Agreed
Gloves is a must
-
I always use gloves.
The risks of getting an accidental cut, from whatever we dig up, can be fatal in the worst scenario.
Two Things pop up in my mind straight away.
One is a long time surviver...
1) ANTRAX, (Usually found were horses just to graze, still dangerous even after 100 years!!!)
2) A cut from ANY object in the ground can" give" you Tetanus.
I always have my vaccination card with me when I'm out hunting.Better save than sorry!!!
Not 100% sure, but I think I put the warning for cuts while we are out detecting here on this forum some time ago.
Chances it happens to you are perhaps slim, but gloves are a must whilst metal detecting, in my humble opinion.
Have a great hunt friends!!! :)
Alain

My latest dog bite has my tetanus concerns covered... ;D
Agreed, gloves are a must.

It is funny how fast you start accumulating things for your hobby :D
-
My old Faithfull AT just got a new carbon shaft upgrade and a pistol grip...man its comfortable to use!!
-
well done young man!!
pretty neat job there Tony.
removing a bit of weight and using a straight shaft make a big difference
-
Nice Tony. Where did you get the shaft?
-
Thanks Louis I can't believe how perfectly the fishing rod shaft worked out (OK ...with the help of a lathe, milling machine and a bit of planning.....The trigger finger loop I would recommend on any modification as it gives you way more leverage over the coil and offers three different ways to grip the shaft......@ Paul.....I picked up an old Kingfisher carbon carp rod at a pawn shop that had seen better days for Fifty bucks ..
-
That is cool, great 'mod' there Tony... 8)
-
Brilliant!! Wonder what the guys at Garret would think of these super smart ideas?
-
Tony, I see some changes to your shopfront signwriting coming...Something like Tony's Custom Coil and Shaft perhaps...
-
Tony, could you please post some pictures of where the rod gets attached to the coil. I want to see how you did that.
-
Here you go Paul, the fishish rod is 18 mm OD at the base where th coil connects,24 mm at the top of the shaft with a 20mm OD tube glued in at that end to accommodate the arm cuff and must measure around 22mm at the point where the handle fits to the shaft as I used a mountain bike bar end..which is designed to clamp on 22mm tubing!
-
The reinforcing sleeve was cut from a 24 mm OD left over as it's ID was a snug fit to the base off the shaft....and Bob's ur Uncle!
-
Nicely done Tony
-

As you already know Jaco I just love making things, I would love to just make custom parts (one offs) for the rest of my life but I still gotta pay the bills and school fees...Some of what I do is design and problem solving but the bike shop keeps the wolves at bay!!!!
-
Hmmm, have a commission for you. Design and manufacture a device to strap my MD onto my back while on the dirtbike to get to all those hard to reach spots in the Heidelberg hills, and while your'e at it something to keep me upright on the bike while in said hills!

I would also like something like that for me to get around on my bike. It would be nice not to drive the car all the time
-
Already planning
-
I have seen it at the Monument well done Tony looks professional.
