Total agree with it a way to keep the forum and its members alive. No Pickers i am from Hoopstad in middel of freestate thats why my english so bad , we dont often speake the tale(language) hahaha just a small joke but true.
-
From the 300 members on this forum about half of them never posted a single post. I think there are about 50 active members posting on a regular base.
Yes I are happy being on this forum. Not being English or Afrikaans the taal is very heavy for me 8).
-
The problem is that many people see the hobby they like to try and soon give up as you see serious people are 50 from few hundred
-
In my opinion, the non active members can stay. You never know hen they might post
-
I scrolled through the weblinks on the member lists a few days ago and a lot of them are nothing but spam. I do not advise anyone to check it out at work or while the wife and kids are around. I agree that some non posting members should stay around because even if they are just lurking you never know when they start posting but there are a few that really don't belong.
-
I have never really checked out the list of members. The obvious ones should probably go
-
Agree on those that spam
-
Some of us newbies will contribute as we get more finds, time etc to detect. If one must post in order to remain a member then we might find a lot of "spam" postings due to people posting just for the sake of posting. :P
-
Hi Barney, as starter to detecting you can lurn so mutch by reading the posts, and give a compliment to someones finds, this wil not be spam. And there you have post already as easy as that. Every one would like to have feedback on their finds . Keep going try posting only once a week. Enjoy hunting may you have lots of treasure to share with us.

I will never force anyone to post - that is a free choice... We of course can encourage people to post but they will do so at their own convenience.
We should rather be looking at attracting more new members, rather than complaining about those that dont post. Its all about statistics, the more members we have, the more chances of new people posting and contributing.
Word of mouth - keep spreading the word. :)
-
Wel said and totaly true pushing tin. Motivate the non active members and spread the word to non members. Thanks for the forum and may many other join us.

I'm with PushingTin on this - forcing people to post is not the way to go.

Just my 5cents worth...I don't always log in, and also don't have to much time on my hand for hunting, but if I find things interesting then I do post it. so some times months will pass without a post , and I don't think its fair to block someone if he/she is not active for sometime. I also agree that there might be spam users and think that will always be the case. some people will join just to read it because they are interested in this hobby although they will never actively take part in it. Again u will find that in any club/Facebook, or similar forums. I don't think this site will die, and it will grow with time. We all know that there is always an interest in this hobby, as we can see when people approach us while we detect. Therefore I think the business card idea was great to make people want to know more. not all of them starts right away, but first wants to learn a bit more, and this is the best place to get the answers needed. I can remember when I was a young boy seeing this guy on the beach with a detector in hand. Always wanted to try it and only got around buying my first detector when I was about 38. only later I discovered this site by chance , so I believe there is a lot of people that are interested but not all can start straight away, but will eventually catch up, and some will just stay for the interesting find people discover. So to block people is not the correct way of promoting this forum. Happy hunting

Another way to keep people from joining that don't really want to join, but they join just to ask for help with some thing they lost. Maybe there can be a public blog where they can ask for help if they lost some thing or need help. this will prevent them from joining, only to ask for some assistance. Maybe u can make it so that it doesn't show if they don't give a contact number or email to stop spam .
There is people that need help from time to time with lost valuables, an I for one will help if it is in my region. Just a thought ..
Happy hunting .
